It’s about time we saw another animated film that handles death in a not so glum way, after all kids, you ARE going to die one day. Tim Burton’s THE CORPSE BRIDE did a great job of showing a funky and colourful afterlife and now the Guillermo Del Toro Produced THE BOOK OF LIFE looks set to do the same. The film sees a pair of gods place a bet based on the love triangle of three childhood friends, only for one of the gods to cheat, thus killing off one of the love rivals. Pulling from Mexican tales with a gorgeous and distinct style, this looks unlike anything else in the animation world and reminds me of the cover for Oingo Boingo’s album Dead Man’s Party.
With an all star cast including Channing Tatum, Zoe Saldana and Diego Luna, THE BOOK OF LIFE looks set to be this year’s Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks alternative.
THE BOOK OF LIFE is released 17th October in the US and 24th October in the UK. It stars the vocal stylings of Diego Luna, Channing Tatum, Zoe Saldana, Ron Perlman, Danny Trejo, Christina Applegate, and Ice Cube.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
