The godfather of soul, James Brown, is brought vividly to life courtesy of GET ON UP, a biopic of the man’s life from THE HELP director, Tate Taylor. GET ON UP, as you can imagine, looks at the turbulent life of one of music’s most iconic legends, from his troubled childhood to his enormous successes. In the role of Brown is 42 star Chadwick Boseman who, judging by this trailer, has nailed the part, capturing the charisma and heart perfectly.
That’s just based on the trailer though, but it’s sure to make you want to GET ON UP with its use of a funkadelic soundtrack and Brown’s trademark “Yeah!” Interestingly enough the script comes courtesy of the British Butterworth brothers Jez and John-Henry, who are also responsible for this summer’s Tom Cruise blockbuster, EDGE OF TOMORROW. Now that’s showing some variety.
GET ON UP is released 1 August in the US and 26th September in the UK. Its tars Chadwick Boseman, Nelsan Ellis, Octavia Spencer, Viola Davis, Dan Aykroyd, Craig Robinson, and Lennie James.
