Charlie Cox Cast As Daredevil In Marvel And Netflix’ 2015 TV Series

Daredevil Charlie Cox

It was only yesterday that Steven S. DeKnight was announced as the new showrunner for Marvel and Netflix’ upcoming Daredevil television series, and now only a day later we have our man without fear!

With just over a month until filming is slated to begin in New York, it was only a matter of time before Marvel found their new Matt Murdock. And so the superhero powerhouse have now announced who will be donning the horns and red spandex for their new Netflix exclusive 13 part series. Our very own Charlie Cox has been officially confirmed for the title role of the upcoming show, which is certainly an unexpected and exciting piece of casting news. Although Cox is most well known for his leading role in Matthew Vaughn’s STARDUST, the Brit star has made recent appearances on both Downton Abbey and Boardwalk Empire. Although I am only familiar with Cox from his work on STARDUST, he is undoubtedly extremely talented and strangely under-utilised (until now). The charm and leading man quality of Cox, coupled with his relatively fresh face seemingly untapped potential, seems to gel with typical Marvel castings for high profile projects.  You can check out the official press release from Marvel below:

‘Marvel is proud to announce that acclaimed actor Charlie Cox has joined “Marvel’s Daredevil,” an all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015. Best known for his acclaimed work in “Boardwalk Empire” and “Stardust,” Cox will play Matt Murdock, the lead role in this all-new Marvel Television series. Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City’.

It will be very interesting to see how closely Daredevil sticks to the established tone of Marvel Studios’ gargantuan film franchise and existing television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, given the darker nature of the character. Hopefully the series will also make some sort of crossover or reference to the larger universe it inhabits, before Daredevil teams up with Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist in Netflix’ planned Defenders mini-series.
