After the disappointing news of Edgar Wright’s departure from ANT-MAN the filmmaker is currently available to pursue other projects. It has been reported that Wright has set his sights on an adaptation of 1970s classic THE NIGHT STALKER as his next project.
Edgar Wright was attached to the reboot of NIGHT STALKER a few years ago, which was a TV movie that was later adapted into a series. The 1970s cult classic was based on a story following tabloid reporter, Carl Kolchak (Darren McGavin), hunting a killer who drains the blood of women on the Las Vegas strip. Johnny Depp was attached to play the lead role, which Wright had developed specifically for Depp.
It is unclear as to how far along the project is, which may face scheduling conflicts with Depp. Johnny is currently busy starring in BLACK MASS, and a fifth instalment of the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN is currently in development. Whether Depp is still attached to the project is unclear.
