Book Review: The Art of How to Train Your Dragon 2

How to Train Your Dragon 2 book

The Art of How to Train Your Dragon 2 by Linda Sunshine is the new book, out now ahead of the film release of HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 next month. The sequel to the much-loved animated adventure HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON sees Hiccup (Jay Baruchel) and his friends a few years older and living in a very different environment to that of the first story.

The book is an incredible insight into the making of this film, not just as an animated feature but as one which continues the story of its predecessor. There is information about how the characters were aged for the sequel and anecdotes from the crew who worked behind the scenes – including the head of character animation and producer Bonnie Arnold. Director Dean DeBlois and Gerard Butler, who lends his vocals to Stoick, also offer their insights.

Based on the books by Cressida Cowell, the stories contain a vast array of dragons, numerous viking characters – large and small, incredibly impressive landscapes and, of course, numerous shots of flight. The Art of How to Train Your Dragon 2 really takes a closer look at how all of these elements were achieved and the intricacy with which each section was developed. It really is fascinating to see where it all began, thanks to the text and the gorgeous sketches included.

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 arrives in UK cinemas on 4th July.
