Alfonso Cuaron may have just won international acclaim with the award winning GRAVITY, but he’s clearly got no plans to come back down to earth quite yet. Instead, Cuaron is currently in talks about taking on the Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
Penned by J. K. Rowling in 2001, Fantastic Beasts is a “copy” of Potter’s bestiary textbook, which Rowling wrote under the pen name of Newt Scamander.
The film will take place in the Potter universe and will be the first in a trilogy, however it won’t follow any of Harry’s exploits. Instead the story will focus on Newt, although, no doubt, there’ll be loads for all you witches and wizards to get excited about. No word on who’s going to be starring yet, but we should be in safe hands with Cuaron – he directed 2004’s HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN.

Claire Joanne Huxham comes from the south-west, where the cider flows free and the air smells of manure. She teaches A-level English by day and fights crime by night. When not doing either of these things she can usually be found polishing her Star Trek DVD boxsets. And when she can actually be bothered she writes fiction and poetry that pops up on the web and in print. Her favourite film in the whole world, ever, is BLADE RUNNER.
