‘The Simpsons’ Meets ‘Family Guy’ In First Crossover Images

One first hit our screens back in 1989 while the other, sometimes called a ‘rip-off’, appeared only 10 years later. Hard to believe but The Simpson is 25 this year while Family Guy hits the ripe old age of 15. To celebrate such a milestone, the two shows will be delivering a highly publicised cross-over as both shows appear on the Fox Network in the US. The episode ‘The Simpsons Guy’ will air in September and will see the Griffin family end up in Springfield and engage in wacky adventures with their counterparts. Marge and Lois will unite, Homer and Peter will bond (James Bond), Stewie and Bart will become friends as will Meg and Lisa. No word yet on the fates of Brian and Chris.

Although still extremely popular, neither show is in its prime and it could be argued that this is another desperate ratings grab. Each show has poured out the gimmicks in recent years, with Brian being killed off for a brief period in Family Guy and The Simpsons providing us with a Lego episode. That’s not to say the shows don’t still manage a few laughs, but one must wonder how long they will last. Let’s at least hope this is a fair episode that retains each individual show’s sense of humour. I bet that writer’s room was a riot!

Here’s the official synopsis;

Peter (Seth MacFarlane) and the Griffins get out of dodge and end up in Springfield, where they are greeted by a friendly stranger named Homer Simpson (guest voice Dan Castellaneta), who welcomes his new “albino” friends with open arms. The families get along famously: Stewie (MacFarlane) becomes obsessed with Bart (guest voice Nancy Cartwright) and his old-fashioned pranks; Lisa (guest voice Yeardley Smith) takes Meg (Mila Kunis) under her wing and is determined to find something – anything – at which she excels; Marge (guest voice Julie Kavner) and Lois (Alex Borstein) ditch housework for a little bonding; and Peter and Homer fight over the best beer in town – Pawtucket vs Duff.
