Earlier today we had confirmation that Channing Tatum, who has actively expressed interest in the role of Gambit for months now, is actually in line to star as the character in his own film. The film, as far as we’re aware, is unnamed, but let’s be honest, it will most likely go something along the lines of ‘Gambit: Thrower of Cards and Throbber of Hearts.’
There is currently no director attached to the project, and not even any rumours at this point, but we do know that it will be following X-MEN: APOCALYPSE, so presumably he either lives through ‘the apocalypse’ or it’s an origin story. The news stems from X-MEN producer Lauren Shuler Donner, who confirmed Tatum would be playing the “rascal” as she described him on the red carpet during the X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST premiere.
Gambit HAS been given the silver screen treatment before, played by Taylor Kitsch in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE and, well…we don’t talk about that. So here’s to getting a do-over; good luck Tatum, I hope your facial hair growing escapades go well.
