Whether you are crossing off the days until release or trying to bury your head in the sand, this summer sees a second TRANSFORMERS trilogy kick off with TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION. The film has parted ways with the cast of the first three movies and is hoping that Mark Wahlberg can breathe new life into the multi-million dollar franchise.

The new story-arch will be set in the same world as the Shia LaBoeuf-led threesome, and as we have already seen in trailers will heavily reference the events from those films, most notably the destruction of Chicago. Earlier in the year we were lucky enough to sit down with producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura who told us that the Chicago battle in TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON will be the film world’s version of September 11th.

Today the project has gained two new cast members with John Goodman and Ken Watanabe onboard to lend their vocals to two key Autobots. Goodman, best known in the voice-over world as MONSTERS INC’s Sully, will voice Autobot Hound, who in the animated series was instrumental in creation of the first three Dinobots. Watanabe, one of the stars of next week’s big release GODZILLA, will be bringing Drift to life. Drift once worked for Megatron where he went by the name Deadlock; after a change of heart he decided to join the Autobots. Could his character be the turn-coat of the new film?

Director Michael Bay had this to say about the new casting additions:

I am pleased to welcome two gifted and versatile actors, John Goodman and Ken Watanabe, to the world of Transformers, and to reteam with Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, who have brought Transformers characters alive from the beginning. I’ve been fortunate to work with some of the best voice talent in the business, and together we will introduce several exciting new robots to fans of the franchise around the world.

TRANSFORMERS: AGE OF EXTINCTION is released on 27th June in the US, with the UK getting to see it from 10th July.
