Dave Franco Gives An Update On ‘Now You See Me’ Sequel

Now You See Me Franco

NOW YOU SEE ME was a pleasant surprise last summer that seemingly (and ironically) appeared from nowhere, and went on to become a massive success at the worldwide box office. The film had a budget of around $75 Million and ended up with a huge worldwide total of over $350 Million, which is more than enough to secure a sequel by Hollywood standards.

NOW YOU SEE ME revolved around a gang of street magicians with impressive abilities, who become fugitives after a series of public illusions and tricks result in large scale bank robberies around the world. The film was not only one of the most exhilarating action Blockbusters of 2013, but it also had one of the best ensemble cast’s of recent memory. The impressive cast consisted of Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine among many other high profile actors. Now of the films stars’ Dave Franco (BAD NEIGHBOURS), has given an update on the status of the planned sequel, which you can read below:

‘Last I heard, we were still going at the end of this year. … I’ve heard a pitch of the story. It’s actually going to be really exciting. I was slightly weary, just because you never know when it comes to a sequel. But I think the first one opened up enough avenues. There are many directions left to explore. There are many places that it can go, and they really – they held true to the spirit of the first one, but it’s going to be enough of a departure that it doesn’t just feel like a complete copy of the first one’.

The report also mentions that Franco later elaborated and stated that the film will explore each of the characters in more depth, in terms of who they are ‘off stage’. So far it sounds as if the currently untitled sequel to NOW YOU SEE ME (NOW YOU DON’T?) is shaping up nicely, and with a potential filming date at the end of this year the script thankfully isn’t being rushed either. Hopefully the entire cast of the first film will return for this highly anticipated sequel, that will once again be directed by Louis Leterrier.
