Potential First Look At Chewbacca In ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

J.J. Abrams has finally dropped the news we’ve all been waiting for – or some of it, at least – by revealing the main cast of STAR WARS: EPISODE VII. Among them were a handful of actors and characters from George Lucas’ original trilogy, including none other than the walking carpet himself, in the form of Peter Mayhew’s Chewbacca.

In honour of May 4th, affectionately known around the world as STAR WARS day (May the 4th be with you!), Lucasfilm has posted a new photo to its Instagram account, featuring Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger alongside an unnamed Wookiee. Presumably this is our first look at Peter Mayhew back in costume for the sequel.

While some might expect Chewie’s costume to look a little more well-worn to represent the span of time between RETURN OF THE JEDI and EPISODE VII, the Wookiee’s age during the original trilogy was set at around 200 years old – so the 30 years between trilogies probably wouldn’t have that much of an effect in terms of ageing.

STAR WARS: EPISODE VII opens December 18th, 2015, and is set to star John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson and Max von Sydow, plus original cast members Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Peter Mayhew, Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker.
