THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 was a surprisingly brilliant superhero adaptation with breathtaking action sequences, a beautifully heart-breaking love story, and a tantalising teaser of a certain super villain team-up.
After a disappointing first instalment saved merely by the sizzling chemistry of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, its sequel definitely has me on board for Sony’s new cinematic Spidey universe. It’s been known for a while now that Sony have two additional SPIDER-MAN sequels planned, as well as VENOM and SINISTER SIX spin-off’s. However it’s only now that we are beginning to see their future plans begin to come to fruiting from numerous easter eggs and references made within THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2.
The end credits of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 give some hints at the franchise’s ‘Sinister Future’ in a series of teaser images that can be unlocked when using the ‘Shazam’ app during Alicia Keys’ song ‘It’s on Again’. A new report however, has revealed that the roster of super villains present in the SINISTER SIX film has yet to be officially decided. This is due to the fact that the films director Drew Goddard (THE CABIN IN THE WOODS) has yet to complete the script and as a result the team can’t be completely revealed just yet. Despite this we do have some hints from the film itself and various interviews given in the past six months that have indicated who we may see in the anti-Avengers spin-off. Based on a few educated guesses and a bit of reading between the lines I would assume THE SINISTER SIX will consist of The Lizard, The Green Goblin, Electro, The Rhino, The Vulture and Doctor Octopus, although this is pure speculation on my part.
The report also mentions that the film could begin filming as early as January 2015 which would definitely be interesting in terms of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3’s May 2016 release date…
