Well this is certainly some unexpected and delightful casting news. It has been revealed that the final major cast member in Alan Taylor’s TERMINATOR: GENESIS is none other than former-time lord Matt Smith!
After Smith left DOCTOR WHO last Christmas in order to pursue a career in Hollywood, it seems that the 31 year old star may be getting his wish. With TERMINATOR: GENESIS typically generating scepticism rather than enthusiasm, this glorious piece of casting is a stroke of genius that will surely attract quite a substantial amount of attention. The addition of Smith to the already impressive roster of talented young stars in the film, appears to be a dream come true for geeks across the globe…clearly the science fiction gods have been busy. It was only a matter of time before the former Eleventh Doctor followed in the footsteps of his former companion Karen Gillan (GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY), and joined major Hollywood franchise…and we couldn’t be happier that it is in TERMINATOR: GENESIS.
Smith has reportedly been cast in a major role that will expand in the planned second and third films of the newly rebooted TERMINATOR franchise. This is undoubtedly fantastic news for Smith and it’s great to hear that he will play a significant role in the new film, although details on his character are unknown could he be playing a new TERMINATOR or possibly human antagonist? Either way the thought of The Doctor sharing the screen with Arnold Schwarzenegger’s T-800 is enough to send any Science Fiction fan into a frenzy…
TERMINATOR: GENESIS will hit theatres on 26th June 2015. The film stars an excellent cast consisting of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney, Jason Clarke, Dayo Okeniyi, J.K. Simmons, Byung-hun Lee and of course Matt Smith.
