Alan Horn, the Disney chairman has been speaking at the Bloomberg Business of Entertainment Breakfast, and whilst there let it slip that the next PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN film is a long way off.
The film which has the working title of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES has had its release shifted from July 2015 to summer 2016. This is a knock-on effect due to the script being no where close to ready. Directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg had hoped to start filming this autumn but their hopes have no been quashed.
Horn explained that he hadn’t seen a screenplay that he’s ‘been able to sign off on’ and also stated that they have to be ‘very careful’ given the ‘variables that affect the final outcome once it leaves the studio’.
Personally I don’t see why they are bothering with a fifth film, other than the obvious business incentive that they make a lot of money. You have to feel sorry for the people charged with scripting it as five films in it’s got to be pretty tough to come up with something original that the fans will take to. Johnny Depp is back once more to star as Jack Sparrow, but he didn’t manage to save PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES. The fourth film was awful and unnecessary and another film would surely just drag out the torment for those out there that adored the first film.

What is with everyone hating on sequels, I hope they make another 20 PotC movies as well as all the other movies I enjoy. The 4th one wasn’t that bad either and I’m pretty picky, it wasn’t as good as the first 3 obviously but its still better then 95% of the movies out there.
