Jessica Chastain To Play Marilyn Monroe In ‘Blonde’

Blonde

Yes, you’ve read the headline correctly. There is yet another film on the horizon based around Hollywood starlet of the 1950’s Marilyn Monroe. After we have already seen the 2011 film MY WEEK WITH MARILYN and the 2012 documentary LOVE, MARILYN (among many others), one would assume that Hollywood that would get bored of films based on the ill-fated icon. However that is not the case, and so Brad Pitt will be producing a new ‘re-imagined’ film chronicling the life and stardom of Marilyn Monroe titled BLONDE.

BLONDE is based on the novel of the same by Joyce Carol Oates, which is said to re-interpret Monroe by focussing on the ‘poetic and spiritual life of Norma Jeane Baker — the child, the woman and the fated-celebrity better known by her studio name of Marilyn Monroe’. Jessica Chastain has reportedly been persuaded to star in the film by Pitt after initial hesitations, in what is apparently a different and unique interpretation of the actress unlike any previous adaptations. Chastain has displayed her fantastic acting range and talent in a number of recent films including LAWLESS and ZERO DARK THIRTY, the latter of which earned her an academy award nomination (and rightly so).

BLONDE will be directed by Andrew Dominik (CHOPPER, KILLING THEM SOFTLY), and although there is no official release date yet you can check back with THN for any updates on the film.
