New Shots Emerge Of Denzel Washington In ‘The Equalizer’

The original 1980’s series was about an uptight Englishman dishing out hard justice in clipped tones on the mean streets of New York. But in 2014 THE EQUALIZER gets a brand new bag in the shape of Denzel Washington, reteaming with his TRAINING DAY director Antoine Fuqua. The newly-embaldened Washington features in these new shots from the movie, alongside co-star Chloe Grace Moretz.

The seemingly TAXI DRIVER-inspired storyline sees title character Robert McCall protecting a teenage prostitute (Moretz) from the seedier elements of the Boston underworld, including Russian mafia “fixer” Marton Csokas.

As viewers of the original Equalizer will know, McCall was a cross between a Citizens Advice Bureau worker and a deadly commando, and although this re-imagining follows along the same lines the end product is more about quality than homage to Washington:

“The title doesn’t mean anything to me. It’s the material… It’s a classic story, the innocent girl and the guy coming in to save the day and kick some butt. You’ll get some popcorn and escape for a couple of hours.”

It’s nice to know however that Washington is still observing former star Edward Woodward’s immaculate dress code.

THE EQUALIZER is due to be released in UK cinemas in October 2014, you can also find more shots over on USA Today
