Marc Webb Hints At J. Jonah Jameson For ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’

J Jonah Jameson

There’s plenty more SPIDER-MAN films on the horizon from Sony, whether we want them or not, and next up from director Marc Webb is THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3. One character we’ve yet to see in the web-slinging franchise reboot is The Daily Bugle’s editor-in-chief, J. Jonah Jameson.

In Sam Raimi’s original SPIDER-MAN trilogy, Jameson was portrayed perfectly by J.K. Simmons, and it’s difficult to imagine anyone else attempting to take up that role in his stead. Still, Webb’s apparently going to give it a go anyway for his next superhero sequel, alluding to the character in a Google+ Hangout chat:

‘I like the idea very much of him coming up in the next film. It was more easy to accept a new Spider-Man than someone who could out do J.K. Simmons in that role, he is so iconic. That’s something we’ve really talked about. Obviously I love that character because he poses such an interesting dilemma for Spider-Man. The answer is I don’t know, but I think you can expect to see him in the future.’

While Webb at least concedes Simmons’ portrayal will be difficult to top, he doesn’t mention who else is in the frame to take up the role. Still, who’s to say Simmons couldn’t come back and bridge the two franchises? At least then we’d be reminded of a time when SPIDER-MAN films were actually decent.

Let us know who you’d like to play the role of J. Jonah Jameson in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 3, due out in 2016, in the comments below. THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 is in cinemas now, directed by Marc Webb and starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan and Paul Giamatti.
