olivier awards

The Almeida Theatre was one of the big winners on Sunday night as the theatre scooped eight awards through West End transfers Chimerica and Ghosts at THE OLIVER AWARDS 2014.

Chimerica pulled off five awards including Best New Play and Best Director for Lyndsey Turner while Lesley Manville was named Best Actress for her role in Ghosts, which also won Best Revival and Best Actor in a Supporting Role for Jack Lowden.

The Best New Musical went to new hit The Book of Mormon which also took the Best Actor award for Gavin Creel. However, when it came to classic favourites, it was Les Misérables which won the BBC Radio 2 Audience Award as voted for by the public, proving the show still delivers after all these years.

There were fourteen live performances on the night including ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus who reunited as part of a show finale to celebrate fifteen years of the hit show Mamma Mia!
