Sony Pictures have announced the man who will direct Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan in THE KARATE KID 2. Breck Eisner, who is responsible for THE CRAZIES, SAHARA and THOUGHTCRIMES, will pick up where the original’s director, Harald Zwart. The original version of THE KARATE KID was released 30 years ago this year, but the remake became a worldwide box office sensation with a total haul of $343 million.
I still can’t take to the Chan and Smith reboot, but at least it changed things up enough to become its own picture. There’s no word yet on where the plot for the second film might go, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the original China set film to relocate to the US, a reversal of the original series of films move from the US to Japan for the sequel.
