Battlestar Galactica To Be Revived For The Big Screen?

Battlestar Galactica

Battlestar Galactica seems to be the boomerang of Sci-Fi television having come back around three times (two full-length shows and a mini-series), it even got its own spin-off show in the guise of the short-lived Caprica. It is now being reported that the next outing will be for the big-screen, with a movie in the works.

Universal are currently eyeing the project, and have assigned TRANSCENDENCE scribe Jack Paglen in the whole of screenplay writer. Paglen has a full plate at the moment as he is also working on Ridley Scott’s PROMETHEUS sequel.

The shows revolve around humans at war with cybernetic beings known as Cylons, the original series had them look like robots whilst the more recent adaptation had them look human. Despite original creator Glen Larson being attached it is thought that the studio are wanting to completely re-imagine the story.

The 2003 version has amassed a strong fan base thanks mainly to online streaming and DVD box-sets and fans have been crying out for more since it ended. The news of the film being a re-imagining and not a continuation will come as sad news to the hardcore fans as it means that favourites Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff), Admiral Adama (Edward James Olmos), and Six (Tricia Helfer) will either be recast or cut from the plot entirely.
