Disney Firing Up The Cylinders For ‘The Wheelman’

Disney can hardly do anything wrong these days. With their Marvel juggernaut continuing to rake in the money, a host of new STAR WARS properties surely doing the same in the near future and great animated hit with FROZEN, it’s a good time to be a part of the Mouse House.

The one area that has been a mixed bag might be their non-franchise live action films. THE LONE RANGER (though criminally underrated) was one of last year’s biggest box office failures, although it wasn’t as catastrophic as their 2012 tentpole (the also underrated) JOHN CARTER. On top of that, over the past few years films like OZ: THE GREAT AND THE POWERFUL, TRON LEGACY, and THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE have failed to match their expectations. To their credit, they don’t stop and now they’re hoping for a surprise success with family action-comedy THE WHEELMAN.

Disney have just hired the two brothers Jim & Brian Kehoe to re-write a script by NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM scribes Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant. The script revolves around a Las Vegas limo driver who is forced to drive around a mob boss’ bratty son and his friends. The driver then gets in a little too deep when the mafioso goes missing. Personally I’m keeping an open mind about this although I rarely like Lennon & Garant’s scripts. Details are still sparse, but with a decent cast it could still be a fun story.

It’s early days but we’ll bring you more THE WHEELMAN news as we get it!
