New ‘Doctor Who’ Art Released To Celebrate 9 Years Since Re-Launch

Doctor Who Christopher Eccleston And Rose

As a die-hard Doctor Who fan, I admit (with shame) that I was only vaguely familiar with the show until it made its triumphant return to our television screens in 2005. Since then, I’ve gone back to the groundbreaking series’ roots and discovered the classic episodes of the show in their entirety.

When that now familiar whooshing sound of the TARDIS was first heard in 2005 for the shows return, it signalled a new era for the nearly 50-year-old series. Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper blasted onto television as the latest dynamic time-travelling duo to grace our screens and who would have thought that the iconic series would only increase in success as the years went on. With Doctor Who‘s popularity growing across the globe every day, a once cheap, laughable British science fiction series is now one of the most acclaimed and successful properties in the world.

The international celebrations of Doctor Who‘s 50th anniversary last November (Our report with Moffat, Coleman & Smith here) were a testament to the programmes’ rapidly expanding popularity. Despite the fantastic success and quality that the show has endured since its return it’s slightly sad to think that it has been exactly 9 years today since it was re-launched by Russell T Davies. To celebrate New-Who‘s 9th anniversary, the BBC have released 3 special pieces of artwork depicting Christopher Eccleston as the Ninth Doctor, Billie Piper as Rose Tyler and John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness.
