Marvel’s ‘Daredevil’ Netflix Series To Start Shooting In July

Earlier in the week at Paleyfest 2014, HitFlix managed to nab Jeph Loeb (head of Marvel television) on the ol’ red carpet who was there for the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D panel. After a little prompting, Loeb revealed that Marvel’s Daredevil series, which is made-for, distributed by and exclusive to Netflix would start filming in New York in July.

Alongside this, he also revealed that following Daredevil, we would see Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage in each of their own  series, (each consisting of 13-episodes and in that order) before culminating in a mini-series event titled The Defenders.

DEFENDERS

It is perhaps significant to note that the mini-series event will most likely feature a crossover of all of the aforementioned and possibly several other unused Marvel properties, depending on what Marvel reaquire before that time. For those of you unfamiliar with The Defenders, at their roots, they are a team of individualistic super-heroes based in New York that typically deal with supernatural of mystical threats. Their first incarnation featured Doctor Strange (wait, aren’t we getting a film with him?) Hulk, Namor, and, eventually, the Silver Surfer. (the latter-two Marvel don’t currently own) They would rotate members akin to the different teams that The Avengers regularly split themselves into, featuring the likes of Valkyrie, Nighthawk, Hellcat, the Gargoyle, Beast, the Son of Satan and Luke Cage among many others.

However, when prompted as to whether the series will be released as a whole, akin to House of Cards or Orange Is the New Black or if it were episodic, a faint smirk appeared on Loeb’s face to which he simply replied:

I think people will be delighted with what we’re doing. I think that’s all I can really talk about just yet.

With filming starting so soon, check back regularly for casting information which is sure to emerge over the next few weeks. The pilot is being written and directed by Drew Goddard, as we reported last year!
