First Look: Tornado Thriller ‘Into The Storm’ Starring Richard Armitage & Sarah Wayne Callies

I’m sure that anyone who has seen TWISTER (1996) knows that it still lives up to his forward-thinking use of technology in storm chasing. Today, we’ve got the first shots from INTO THE STORM and I can’t wait to see what they’ve come up with – especially with all the leaps in modern tech and the brave move here of merging it with the found footage genre.

We also be able to make the leap from trying to make it look real with CGI, and delving inside the handheld camera techniques that’s used so well in the likes of CLOVERFIELD and the first PARANORMAL ACTIVITY. From the look at these first stills below, we’ve got an essence of Matt Reeves’ monster movie, by placing us behind the camera and within in but with a trailer due shortly we’ll all find out what the final look and vibe is.

As it’s early days, here’s your official synopsis:

In the span of a single day, the town of Silverton is ravaged by an unprecedented onslaught of tornadoes. The entire town is at the mercy of the erratic and deadly cyclones, even as storm trackers predict the worst is yet to come. Most people seek shelter, while others run towards the vortex, testing how far a storm chaser will go for that once-in-a-lifetime shot.

INTO THE STORM is directed by Steven Quale, who did a sterling job on the surprising FINAL DESTINATION 5, who has worked with James Cameron on both TITANIC and AVATAR, so he’s no stranger to big-time action. It stars Richard Armitage, Sarah Wayne Callies, Matt Walsh, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Arlen Escarpeta, Max Deacon, Nathan Kress, Jeremy Sumpter, Kyle Davis, Jon Reep, and Scott Lawrence. It opens in August across the globe.
