Star Trek 3 Co-Writer Talks Script Development

STAR TREK 3 writer J.D. Payne was in attendance at the LDS Film Festival recently and gave away some snippets of information about the upcoming sequel.  In the video below he reveals the team have received the go ahead from Paramount Pictures and are due to begin writing any day now with a first draft expected by May.  He also reveals that the plot may centre around a fundamental disagreement over philosophy and a tough decision the crew is going to face that will have audiences walking out thinking “I don’t know what I would do”. Space travel combined with moral dilemmas? We’re in!

Here’s what we know about STAR TREK 3 so far; there’s no director currently confirmed but both J.J. Abrams and Joe Cornish have been rumoured. Abrams of course directed STAR TREK and STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS but has bulked his schedule up hugely in the coming months as the man behind the camera on STAR WARS: EPISODE VII. ATTACK THE BLOCK director Cornish was thought to be in the running late last year but may have been ruled out by the studio if the latest rumours are to be believed.  Alongside Payne in the writing team are Patrick McKay and Trek veteran Roberto Orci. The franchise celebrates its’ 50th anniversary in 2016 and the film looks set to be released to coincide with the event.

Here’s the video of Payne in action.  If you have any ideas on what the big moral dilemma could be let us know in the comments below!
