Back in 2013 it seemed like it was full steam ahead with the PEE-WEE HERMAN movie; Paul Reubens (the infamous Pee-Wee himself) had confirmed the script was finished and the financing was in place meaning a 2014 shooting schedule was a possibility. We were anticipating a road movie built around “a gigantic adventure” but then it all went dark on the news front. Well Judd Apatow, who climbed aboard as a producer way back in 2010, has been talking to The Hollywood Reporter after watching PEE-WEE LIVE (and loving it) and had this to say:
“We’re pretty close to getting that going. We’ve kicked around a couple of titles. Pee-wee takes a Holiday—that was one of them. But we have a great script that he wrote with a friend of mine, Paul Rust, and I think we’re probably going to get to do that soon”.
Nowhere near as high profile here in the UK as in the USA, Pee-Wee Herman has been hanging around since the 1980’s and has had TV shows, films and HBO specials in a long lasting career only slightly hampered by Paul Reubens’ arrest in 1991. Sounds like the new movie will be happening after all and we’ll all get to join Herman on his jolly holidays.
