On 22nd March, Elton John fans will be able to see for themselves what the rocket man is like when he performs, as his Las Vegas show THE MILLION DOLLAR PIANO comes to UK cinemas. Filmed at The Colosseum, Caesars Palace, the show offers up many of Elton John’s much-loved hits such as Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me, Your Song and Tiny Dancer, along with some lesser known tracks.
Though there are moving and emotional numbers, by the end of the show Elton John manages to turn it into one enormous party and it’s an absolute delight to watch him in action. For a performer who spends most of his time hiding behind a piano, the singer certainly knows how to command a stage. He is and always will be a consummate performer, insanely talented both musically and vocally.
But of course, Elton John doesn’t just sing. He takes a few moments between songs to talk a bit about his career, where it all began, his influences and friends. He also talks about the rather bizarre love affair he has with his pianos and this one, in particular, really is his co-star for the show, joining in just as much as anyone else on the stage.
The only downside to seeing the show this way is not being able to stand and cheer and applaud. The urge is certainly there to show your appreciation and get up and dance. With any luck, the fact that this is a one day only showing might just bring out the dancers amongst the viewers, turning the cinema into as much of a party as the show itself.
Cinematic events like this allow fans to experience performances they might not normally get to see. Having the show filmed takes viewers even closer than the audience, closing in on his incredible piano playing and the work of the equally awe-inspiring musicians who share the stage with him. THE MILLION DOLLAR PIANO is a spectacular show, enjoyable for anyone who’s ever had a casual interest in Elton’s work and an absolute must for his many fans.
