With the sudden popularity of fairytale adaptations in Hollywood such as ALICE IN WONDERLAND, SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN and HANSEL AND GRETEL: WITCH HUNTERS, it was only a matter of time before Disney returned to once again cash in on the craze.
After Tim Burton’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND grossed over a billion dollars worldwide for Walt Disney Studios, they quickly decided to produce more live action adaptations of their classic animated films. As well as planning a sequel to the aforementioned Burton film currently set for a 2016 release, the Mouse House also decided to develop a live action SLEEPING BEAUTY adaptation. MALEFICENT is a re-imagining of the classic fairytale told from the point of view of the films antagonist and title character. After Angelina Jolie was cast as the evil and iconic villain, the project quickly gained attention and is now looking to be one of the best films of 2014. Disney have now released a fantastic new trailer that once again demonstrates the perfect casting of Jolie and also Lana Del Rey’s brilliant ‘Once Upon a Dream’ single.
You can check it out below:
MALEFICENT boasts an impressive cast consisting of Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Sharlto Copley, Juno Temple and Peter Capaldi. The film will be released in the UK on 30th May and you can check back with The Hollywood News for more updates!
