Dirty Dancing, Legally Blonde, Sister Act, Billy Elliot and Ghost are just some of our beloved films that have been made into musicals in the past few years. Now this all-star list will be getting another hit to sing along to with 1990s classic film PRETTY WOMAN set to take the Broadway stage!
Reports are telling us that the movie’s director Gary Marshall is currently in New York with producer Paula Wagner and they are taking meetings with composers, lyricists and directors in order to make ‘Pretty Woman – The Musical‘ happen. In addition to this Marshall and screenwriter JF Lawton are writing the book based on the movie.
Also known as the movie that shot Julia Roberts to instant stardom, PRETTY WOMAN follows the story of prostitute looking for a fairytale ending, which she luckily finds in the form of Richard Gere. The original musical was actually already written by Lawton however the story had an edgier, if not more realistic, ending, with the prostitute being thrown out of the rich guy’s limo and having $3,000 tossed after her. Needless to say, this probably didn’t go down well with Hollywood execs and the movie was given its famous fairytale spin.
Lets just hope that the musical is as big a success as the movie and that it will have us singing “Pretty Woman” all night long!
