I’ve never been a fan of travel journalism, finding it more of a way for authors to boast about places they’ve been than offer anything substantial. Film adaptations, while also at the bottom of my to watch list at least have the added advantage of the impressive visuals to showcase. TRACKS tells the true story of Robyn Davidson, who in 1977 decided to take a nine month walk across the Australian desert. On her journey she has many adventures and experiences many life changing events.
This trailer still seems rather bland to me and is certainly pushing the life changing experience angle. The book, which came as a result of popular demand following a 1978 National Geographic piece, has attempted adaptation a number of times. In 1993 Julia Roberts was attached to the lead role which has now gone to Mia Wasikowska. Although not my cup of tea, the work of John Curran has ben very interesting with THE PAINTED VEIL being an absolute knock-out. Let’s hope he brings some life to TRACKS.
TRACKS is released in the UK on 25th April. It stars Mia Wasikowska and Adam Driver.
