Michael B. Jordan Talks The Human Torch For ‘The Fantastic Four’

Firstly, many have responded harshly to the casting announcements for the upcoming THE FANTASTIC FOUR reboot. In some instances some of these criticisms have simply been because of race. Now, Michael B. Jordan says it best when he says in the following interview that change is inevitable and a lot of people don’t like it. Understandably fans will want a strong sense of continuity and whilst we might not exactly get that, it is simply far too early to judge how the film will turn out, especially when it’s based on a variation of the original comics (see below for more information).

Here, Jordan can be seen responding to criticism in regards to taking the role of Johnny Storm/The Human Torch.

“It was expected. You kinda know going into it that people are used to seeing something one way, it’s a continuity thing more than anything. People don’t like change too much. But annoyed? Eh, you just kinda accept it, it is what it is. You can’t make everybody happy. You just gotta accept that and know. I’m an actor, I have to do my job. I’m going to do my job the best I can and the way I’ve been doing it my entire life, my entire career. I grew up a comic book guy, I read comic books as a kid growing up, and the Fantastic Four/Human Torch is one of my favorite characters so I’m going to give it my everything. I can’t wait. I don’t really let it bother me at all. I just want to go into it and do the best job I can. We’ll see what happens.”

We will no doubt see even more criticism when the other confirmed casting choices for the reboot are subject to interviews, but in the mean time here is why Jordan decided to take the role:

“The Human Torch is, ‘yknow, that’s fun. That’s going to be a good time…To play a superhero? That’s dreams coming true. It’s not going to be hard. It’s going to be fun to kind of show a side of me that I don’t really get to show on screen, to be a little bit lighter, funnier, just more personality. It’s going to be fun.”

For those unfamiliar with the direction in which the THE FANTASTIC FOUR reboot will take, as our very own Luke said in the casting announcement, the reboot will essentially focus on Ultimate Fantastic Four, a variation of the original Fantastic Four comics that focus on the super-powered team as much younger versions of themselves, with an entirely different power origin story. The story, if following closely to the source material, may feature our band of unlikely heroes travelling to the N-Zone, meeting a sadistic alien known as Nihil, who wishes to leave the N-Zone and invade Earth. It may also either feature Rhona Burchill, a super-genius that is later referred to as ‘The Mad Thinker’, or The Skrulls. They may also, of course, recycle Victor Von Doom. Only time will tell.

THE FANTASTIC FOUR is set for release on the 18th June 2015 in the UK and 19th June 2015 in the US. It stars Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Michael B. Jordan.
