Pointless remake POINT BREAK has found its new Johnny Utah, the part that Keanu Reeves played in the superb Kathryn Bigalow original. The person who will fill the very large boots of Reeves is Australian actor Luke Bracey, a relatively unknown thesp who appeared in last year’s GI JOE: RETALIATION. Gerard Butler has already been cast as Bodhi, a role played by the late, great Patrick Swayze in the 1991 original.

INVINCIBLE helmer Ericson Core will direct for Alcon Entertainment and Warner Brothers.

Kurt Wimmer has written the screenplay for the film, which will revolve around the world of extreme sports, rather than just sticking to surfing which was the focus in the 1991 movie. Utah was the undercover cop who infultrated the surfing gang who had a sideline in robbing banks as the ‘Dead Presidents.’

Bracey cut his acting teeth in the Australian TV show Home and Away, in which he appeared as Trey Palmer in multiple episodes in 2010.

Shooting kicks off this summer for a 2015 release.
