It’s Sega Vs Nintendo Again As Sony Develop ‘Console Wars’ Documentary

+

During the early 90s, there was a bit of a divide in the gaming world – as there always is – over which console you should have in your house: Sega or Nintendo? I was a Sega kid (To be this good takes AGES, to be this good takes SEGA…) but I do fondly remember friends arguing over the different possibilities. It’s now been announced that Sony Pictures are developing a big screen adaptation of Blake J. Harris book (released in May) called ‘Console Wars: SEGA, Nintendo and the Battle that Defined a Generation‘ – They might need to work on a shorter title though.

As with all things in development, these are early days, but we do know that Harris is set to produce and co-direct this very intriguing documentary that will surely spike the interest of gamers new and old. As well as Sony on-board, we’ve got the mighty Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg teaming up once again, with MONEYBALL and THE SOCIAL NETWORK’s Scott Rudin backing the project.

Over on Amazon, we know that the CONSOLE WARS book says the following:

Following the success of The Accidental Billionaires and Moneyball comes Console Wars—a mesmerizing, behind-the-scenes business thriller that chronicles how Sega, a small, scrappy gaming company led by an unlikely visionary and a team of rebels, took on the juggernaut Nintendo and revolutionized the video game industry.

In 1990, Nintendo had a virtual monopoly on the video game industry. Sega, on the other hand, was just a faltering arcade company with big aspirations and even bigger personalities. But that would all change with the arrival of Tom Kalinske, a man who knew nothing about videogames and everything about fighting uphill battles. His unconventional tactics, combined with the blood, sweat and bold ideas of his renegade employees, transformed Sega and eventually led to a ruthless David-and-Goliath showdown with rival Nintendo.

You might notice a slight bias going on and not only because Sony are backing it, but also because they registered various domain names relating to CONSOLE WARS and so now, this is all starting to take shape. We’ll keep an eye out for more news as it happens and with Rogen and Co behind this, we’re sure for a whole host of celebrity-related interviews and more nostalgia than ever, whether you’re a Sonic or Mario fan!
