Molly Shannon And David Henrie To Join ‘Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2’

I missed out on the joy of watching PAUL BLART: MALL COP on its release in 2009, having feasted upon its delightful fruits a couple of months ago through a popular video streaming service, you know the one, the film was a masterpiece of comic genius and really should have been considered at the Oscars.

I am, of course, lying.

PAUL BLART was a mediocre-at-best, flat, predictable and meandering film that all revolved around the core ‘joke‘ of Kevin James on a segway. Despite this, it was inoffensive and did provide a few chuckles (for me, mainly just because the name ‘Blart’ itself sounded funny), doing well enough that a sequel was considered and now put into production.

James returns to security guard Blart’s shoes in the inventively-titled PAUL BLART: MALL COP 2. This time taking place in Vegas, at a security guard convention of all places, Blart must once again fight against a group of criminals. Who saw that coming? Whether the criminals will be inexplicably and pointlessly riding skateboards and BMX bikes again is yet to be confirmed.

Two new names have been confirmed for the sequel – Molly Shannon, known for her work on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE and David Henrie, who recently appeared in the horrendous GROWN UPS 2. Will these additions propel BLART 2 into greatness? Probably not. But if Kevin James falls over or shoots around on a segway, the film’s probably going to be a hit.

PAUL BLART: MALL COP 2 is directed by Andy Flickman and also stars Raini Rodriguez, Eduardo Verastegui, Nicholas Turturro and Gary Valentine. There is currently no release date, with shooting set to begin in April this year. Blart.
