While the Academy Awards are still terrible at researching and discovering full length animated feature films for the Best Animated Film category, they do manage to find the best of the animated shorts. All the shorts nominated this year show a distinct style, along with complex aesthetics that convey more emotion and power than the majority of films from Pixar, Dreamworks, and Disney. The films nominated include:
- Feral
- Mr. Hublot
- Room On The Broom
- Possessions
- Get A Horse!
ROOM ON THE BROOM will be familiar to most UK readers, due to its Christmas TV screenings back in 2012. I didn’t think much of it, with a very simple plot and obviously young target audience. MR. HUBLOT is my personal favourite, while FERAl and POSSESSIONS are stunningly realised works too.
