After the CW achieved great success with their long running Superman prequel series SMALLVILLE, it didn’t take long for the network to find another popular character from the pages of DC Comics to adapt. Green Arrow had featured in SMALLVILLE for the majority of its ten year run and the character received his own series in 2012.
Since then ARROW has been a major success and has also received excellent reviews from critics for its gritty Nolan-esque realism and creative storytelling, not to mention the charisma and gravitas brought to the show by its lead Stephen Amell. Season two began in October last year and has continued to soar in popularity ever since with the introduction of fan favourite characters such as Barry Allen/The Flash, as well as some of the best action sequences on television. Now fans will be delighted to know that the CW has unsurprisingly renewed the smash hit series for a third season. This is certainly exciting news for anyone that has been following the adventures of Oliver Queen and the other theatrical occupants of Starling City.
The CW has also renewed SUPERNATURAL for a whopping tenth season, THE VAMPIRE DIARIES for a sixth season and both THE ORIGINALS and REIGN for second outings following their successful debuts. Now we just need to wait and find out whether the highly anticipated ARROW spin-off revolving around THE FLASH gets picked up!
