WORLD WAR Z director Marc Forster has signed up to direct an adaptation of the recently published RED RISING. The novel by Pierce Brown sees a ‘Red’, the lowest member of society on an inhabited Mars, fight against a class system where oppression thrives. Brown has written the script himself and Joe Roth, Palak Patel and Renee Wolf are producing.
The plot doesn’t instantly grab me, as we’ve heard of many similar stories in the past, plus I’m mostly still waiting for the class struggle aboard a train that is SNOWPIERCER. However, I was very impressed by WORLD WAR Z, which made it into my 15 favoruites of last year. Forster also gave us the fantastic MONSTER’S BALL and the wonderful STRANGER THAN FICTION. Although, in terms of action, he did also give us the bland QUANTUM OF SOLACE. Fingers crossed!
