I’m a big child at heart, so before anyone even attempts to argue that “This is for the kids,” can I just remind us all that so was the original POSTMAN PAT and it didn’t devolve into this mindless modern day pandering. I’ll always try and have a good outlook on films but this is disrespectful to both the original character, as well as treating children like the idiots they are not.
POSTMAN PAT is a postman who serves a small village. The original stop-motion animated series had simple but calming plot lines. So what have they done with his big screen adventure? Thrust in a talent show competition plot that also involves robots taking over the world of course. Looking as terrible as the big screen adventures of THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE and THE MAGIC ROUNDABOUT, I can’t wait for the cinematic adaptation of Fireman Sam, in which Sam defeats an evil alien race trying to set the world on fire.
Which such godawful animation it’s a wonder how such big names were attracted to the project. They probably did it for their kids, who will no doubt hate their parents when they’re older.
POSTMAN PAT: THE MOVIE is released in the UK on 25th May. It stars Stephen Mangan, David Tennant, Rupert Grint, Jim Broadbent, and the singing voice of Ronan Keating.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies.
