‘The Lego Movie’ Sequel Has A Writer

Lego MovieOne of the biggest surprises of last year was being blown away by the hysterical THE LEGO MOVIE trailers. It’s released in the US this coming Friday and on Valentine’s Day in the UK, but there is obviously a lot of confidence around the project as Warner Bros. have already hired a writer for the sequel. Jared Stern, with credits including THE WATCH, THE INTERNSHIP, and MR. POPPER’S PENGUINS is now on board for the building block-buster follow-up. Stern has also added story elements to the likes of WRECK-IT RALPH, BOLT, and THE PRINCESS AND THE FROG, so he is obviously no stranger to animated flicks.

I really did love THE WATCH, despite many negative reviews and a small take at the box-office, but with THE LEGO MOVIE’s Phil Lord and Christopher Miller responsible for the wonderful CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS and being very disappointed by the adaptation of MR. POPPER’S PENGUINS, I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Then again, THE LEGO MOVIE isn’t even out yet, so let’s just see how successful things are with that first, but with an opening weekend tracking at $40 million + it should be fine.

THE LEGO MOVIE will be released on 7th February 2014 in the US and the 14th February in the UK. It stars the vocal talent of Chris Pratt, Channing Tatum, Cobie Smulders, Jonah Hill, Liam Neeson, Charlie Day, Morgan Freeman, Elizabeth Banks, Alison Brie, Will Ferrell, Nick Offerman, and Will Arnett.

Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
