Sometimes it’s good when a project tells you a little less than usual and Disney’s MALEFICENT gave us a few teasers initially and now the new trailer really does look quite magnificent.
Robert Stromberg’s directorial debut looks stunning, with Angelica Jolie genuinely intimidating but also beautifully unforgettable. The first trailer and little clip don’t show us too much but definitely that visual talent of Stromberg coming through who also worked on PAN’S LABYRINTH and THE HUNGER GAMES.
This film takes a twist on the ‘Sleeping Beauty’ tale as it’s told from the perspective of the villainous Maleficent. It is set to explore the events that hardened her heart and drove her to curse young Princess Aurora – played by the brilliant Elle Fanning, who’s excelled in everything I’ve seen her in.

MALEFICENT opens in the UK and USA on 30th May, plus across the world around those dates. It co-stars Sharlto Copley, Peter Capaldi, Miranda Richardson, Juno Temple, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Kenneth Cranham, Lesley Manville and Ella Purnell.
