Academy Awards To Celebrate 75th Anniversary Of ‘The Wizard Of Oz’

It has been 75 years since Dorothy and her friends followed the yellow brick road in red ruby shoes. This year’s Academy Awards will celebrate this 75th anniversary with honoring THE WIZARD OF OZ, which was a Best Picture nominee in 1939. Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron had this to say:

“We are delighted to celebrate the birthday of one of the most beloved movies of all time at this year’s Oscars.”

Starring Judy Garland, THE WIZARD OF OZ was nominated for six Academy Awards and won two, for Original Song and Score, losing the Best Picture award to GONE WITH THE WIND.

The 86th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday 2nd March at the Dolby Theatre and returning as host will be talk show presenter Ellen DeGeneres. Check out her new promo clip below, where she does her best to thank the Academy for this wonderful opportunity but then…well, find out below:
