Last years GRAVITY was not only a financial cash cow that accumulated a total worldwide gross of $680 Million, but it also garnered universal acclaim from critics and has been hailed as one of the greatest films of all time. Not bad for a film that took years to get out of development hell at Universal before it found its wonderful home with the clever chaps at Warner Bros.
Now Alfonso Cuaron (CHILDREN OF MEN) has won the Directors Guild Award for outstanding Directorial Achievement in a feature film after his work on GRAVITY. The director has already won a Golden Globe award for the film this year and with GRAVITY receiving ten nominations in the 86th Academy Awards, many are expecting it to be a big winner when 2nd March rolls around. This is hardly surprising as many of you who have seen the film will know, GRAVITY really is an amazing piece of cinema and it deserves every award that it wins. Sandra Bullock also gave an outstanding performance in the Science Fiction drama and I don’t think anyone would be shocked to see the actress once again center stage claiming the ‘best actress’ prize.
