FX has given us another teaser for its upcoming TV series The Strain. It hit small screens stateside during the NFC Championship game on Sunday, and it’s very different in tone to the earlier teaser released last December (you might remember the swarming rodents and hand-held cam).
This new teaser features an aerial long shot of New York. We watch as the city gradually darkens, before the tag-line, “He is here,” appears on screen.
The Strain is based on a 2009 vampire novel of the same name by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan (the first in a trilogy). It tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) whose expertise is called upon to help investigate a viral outbreak of vampirism. Soon the strain spreads and Eph is fighting a war to save humanity.
Del Toro has retained creative control of his project, co-scripting the pilot with Hogan and also directing. We’re also quite excited by his rumoured casting of Javier Botet – the long-limbed contortionist and actor who appeared in MAMA and REC. Botet was diagnosed with Marfan syndrome as a child, which causes unusually long appendages.
You can watch the trailer below.
Mía Maestro, Sean Astin, David Bradley and Kevin Durand also star. It’s pencilled in for a summer premier.

Claire Joanne Huxham comes from the south-west, where the cider flows free and the air smells of manure. She teaches A-level English by day and fights crime by night. When not doing either of these things she can usually be found polishing her Star Trek DVD boxsets. And when she can actually be bothered she writes fiction and poetry that pops up on the web and in print. Her favourite film in the whole world, ever, is BLADE RUNNER.
