Judi Dench Rumoured For ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’

Dame+Judi+Dench

Another day, another STAR WARS: EPISODE VII casting rumour. This time it’s Judi Dench’s name being bandied around, and probably not for any character you’re thinking of: word on the grapevine is that she’s set to play the role of rebel leader Mon Mothma.

In case you don’t remember her, Mon Mothma was seen leading the attack on the second Death Star in RETURN OF THE JEDI. Remember when Han volunteers to lead the boarding party onto Endor after Luke abandons his friends to have a jaunt to Dagobah? In any case, this rumour should probably be filed along with the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch and Matt Smith as ‘maybe but not really’, although the report from Big Shiny Robot does tally with a recent rumour Latino Review have been talking up on Twitter:

This is also one of the first STAR WARS rumours to have an actual character linked to it, and it would be unreasonable to think that we wouldn’t be seeing a few more familiar faces from the original trilogy than just Han, Luke and Leia. Mon Mothma would be a great character to bring back and Judi Dench would certainly be a great choice to fill those boots.

As always, give us your thoughts in the comments below. STAR WARS: EPISODE VII is directed by J.J. Abrams and is due for release on 18th December, 2015.
