Somehow those lucky buggers over at the Sundance Film Festival will get the first look at the follow-up to the magnificent The Trip series starring Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan, with direction from Michael Winterbottom. If you didn’t catch the series on BBC Two, then I fully encourage you to go out and find it or even watch the edited movie version – also called THE TRIP – that aired in the States.

They’ve gone all out on the title, as this new series is called The Trip To Italy and I’m sure will be just as brilliant, with Coogan and Brydon back to take on their slightly altered characters, loosely based on themselves. Official, this is what we can look forward to:

This witty and incisive follow-up, Winterbottom reunites the pair for a new culinary road trip, retracing the steps of the Romantic poets’ grand tour of Italy and indulging in some sparkling banter and impersonation-offs. Rewhetting our palates from the earlier film, the characters enjoy mouthwatering meals in gorgeous settings from Liguria to Capri while riffing on subjects as varied as Batman’s vocal register, the artistic merits of “Jagged Little Pill,” and, of course, the virtue of sequels.

You can book tickets for Sundance by heading here and we’ll keep you up-to-date with the UK date as we get it.
