NIGHT MOVES is the fifth film from Kelly Reichardt (MEEK’S CUTOFF) and follows the life of three radical environmentalists who come together to take on a very specific challenge: the explosion of a hydroelectric dam. But wait, they’re not just doing it because they can but there’s a bigger force at work and for these three leads, it’s the symbol of a resource-devouring industry they hate. Here’s some official synopsis:
Harmon (Peter Sarsgaard) is a former Marine, radicalized by tours of duty overseas. His life in the military is behind him, but at heart he remains the same reckless alpha male he always was, eager for adventure, excited by the prospect of mayhem and destruction. Dena (Dakota Fanning) is a high society dropout, sickened by the consumer economy into which she was born. She’s moved west and cut ties with her family, edging ever deeper into radical politics. And Josh (Jesse Eisenberg), their leader, is a self-made militant, devoted to the protection of the Earth by any means necessary. A son of the middle class who works on an organic farm, he’s an intensely private person by nature and may have the deepest convictions of them all.
NIGHT MOVES is undoubtedly a delve into political extremism but I’d think also set to question what’s right and why people make such choices. It could be pretty intense but one we’ll be keeping an eye out for. Director Reichardt always picks up a great cast as well. Check out the stills below:
NIGHT MOVES stars Dakota Fanning, Jesse Eisenberg, and Peter Sarsgaard. It’s screening at Sundance 2014 and opens official in France on 30th April and follows in the Netherlands on May 1st. We’ll keep you up-to-date on other theatrical release dates as we hear!
