Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment struck gold in 2010 with DESPICABLE ME, which was both funny, sweet and managed to find a great way to sell merchandise to kids with the introduction of Minions. Since then we got a sequel and are getting a spinoff film simply called…MINIONS, but that isn’t the end of it as DESPICABLE ME 3 is hitting US cinemas on 30th June, 2017, but it’s not doing so aloneas the two companies have two other films bookending it. On 21st of December, 2016, an unnamed project by British director Garth Jennings (THE HITCHIKER’S GUIDE TO THE GALAZY, SON OF RAMBOW) will hit cinemas in the States, however little is known about the project other than the fact that it is about courage, competition, and carrying a tune.
The third project will sound familiar to…well…pretty much anyone as it is another adaptation of DR. SEUSS’ THE GRINCH WHO STOLE CHRISTMAS. It will supposedly be re-imagined in a way so it might differ quite a bit from the book and the 90s Jim Carrey vehicle, but there won’t be anything surprising about its release date as it is ready to hit cinemas on …17th November, 2017…okay, so a little earlier than maybe expected, but Christmas does start early these days.
We’ll keep you posted on any other developments with these three projects including casting as the news breaks.
