Julianne Moore And Greta Gerwig Hatch ‘Maggie’s Plan’

Julianne Moore

MAGGIE’S PLAN, the upcoming project from Rebecca Miller (THE PRIVATE LIVES OF PIPPA LEE), has announced it’s two lead actresses will be Greta Gerwig and Julianne Moore when filming starts later this year in New York.  Gerwig will play the lead role of a young woman in New City and it is unclear what Moore’s part will be as yet with several important parts still to be cast.

Here’s what writer/director Miller had to say about the project and casting Gerwig as the lead role.

“It’s the story of a young woman and the joys and pitfalls of trying to make your own way in New York City. Greta has a very specific kind of innocent intelligence about her that made her perfect for this part. I’m so happy I found her.”

The romantic comedy is based on a unpublished novel written by author Karen Rinaldi with the producers of MONEYBALL also on board. Gerwig came to audience’s attention this year in her breakout turn in FRANCES HA which she also co-wrote with Noah Baumbach.  Next up for Gerwig she is starring in Baumbach’s next project, currently untitled, due for release in 2014 as well as EDEN and co-starring with Al Pacino in drama THE HUMBLING.

Julianna Moore also has a packed schedule ahead – it was recently announced she will play rebel leader Alma Coin in parts 1 and 2 of the finale of THE HUNGER GAMES: MOCKINGJAY which are due for release November 2014 and November 2015. On top of that she has two other movies out this year; action-thriller NON-STOP with Liam Neeson and David Cronenberg’s MAP TO THE STARS alongside Robert Pattinson, Carrie Fisher, Mia Wasikowska and John Cusack. Looks like a busy year for both actresses.

MAGGIE’S PLAN is due to start filming this Autumn with no release date yet announced.
