Late last night the announcement of Michael Douglas as Hank Pym in Marvel’s ANT-MAN came as a hell of a surprise for fans of the their cinematic comic-book universe. Inspired casting for sure and the fact it came out of the blue hints at the fact that maybe Marvel Studios can keep a secret. Maybe even leaking details and rumours themselves to gauge fan interest before signing an actor up? The two-time Oscar-winner was perhaps an actor they we’re desperate to land no matter what many thought.
Douglas will star opposite Paul Rudd in the film being directed by Edgar Wright and he’s swiftly broken his silence about signing on as the scientist that will come up with the goods to make Rudd’s Scott Lang a superhero. His comments also hint that he’s signed a multi-picture deal:
“I’ve been dying to do a Marvel picture for so long. The script is really fun, the director is really good. Dylan (his 13-year-old son) will love it. He’ll have a picture he can see. Sometimes – like [when] they didn’t see you for Liberace – you’ve got to shake them up a little bit and have some fun. [Marvel] reciprocated well, there are sequels. Who knows?”
ANT-MAN, which comes from a screenplay from Wright and Joe Cornish, starts principal photography in May and is set for release on the 31st July, 2015.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
