BRIDESMAIDS star Kirsten Wiig and True Blood actor Alexander Skarsgard are set to star opposite in the coming-of-age film THE DIARY OF A TEENAGE GIRL. Joining them will be British actress Bel Powley, who will be making her American debut in the film. First time director Marielle Heller based her script on Pheobe Gloeckner’s graphic novel of the same name and “follows a teenage artist (Powley) living in San Francisco in the ’70s who attempts to navigate her way through an affair with her mother’s boyfriend”. Currently shooting in San Francisco, the film originally went through both the Sundance Institue Directors and Screenwriter Lab as a project.

In other casting news, Jeffrey Dean Morgan (WATCHMEN) is set to star as the villain in Jonas Cuaron’s DESIERTO opposite Gael Garcia Bernal. The thriller follows “a groups of illegal immegrants who try to cross the border but run afoul of a man (Morgan) who has taken up border patrol duties in his own racist hands”. Cuaron already has experience with making hit movies, as he co-wrote the awards nominated GRAVITY with his father Alfonso Cuaron.
